When wastewater starts backing up in your pipes, or smelly sewage spills over onto the lawn, don’t panic. It’s probably a blocked drain which can be quickly cleared by one of a number of techniques we employ for drain unblocking. It shouldn’t take long for us to have your drains flowing freely once again.
Blocked drains are the most common drain problem we deal with, therefore it’s one we are highly experienced and equipped to help with.
The cause of blocked drains inside a house is usually that pipes are clogged by bulky materials like paper towels, hair or sanitary products being flushed away, or grease and food waste being washed down the sink. Blocked drains outside can be the result of tree roots growing into pipes, a build-up of leaves and other garden waste causing an obstruction, or deterioration causing old pipes to fail.
The sooner you call us to report a blocked drain the better. We’ll use specialised equipment (including CCTV cameras) to identify what and where the blockage is, and get it cleared quickly and efficiently.
Once we have found the cause of a drain blockage, we’ll decide on the best technique to clear it. In the case of a small blockage we would probably use extendable drain rods to reach it and dislodge it, but with larger blockages we may use powerful drain jetting equipment to do the trick.
Our vans are equipped with high pressure drain jetting equipment which is effective in most cases to blast blockages in drain and sewer pipes away with water.
Where pipes are blocked by roots we have root cutting machines to remove them, and we also have a lateral cutter available for cutting away solid material.
In most cases we can unblock drains and pipes without resorting to excavation, and where blockages have caused damage to drains we can repair this with drain lining techniques.
Once we’ve unblocked your drains we’re happy to share some tips on prevention to stop you having problems in the future.
Ignoring or neglecting a blocked drain could ultimately lead to structural damage to your property, damp from leaking pipes penetrating the walls causing mould growth, and possibly damaging wiring and electrical fittings. Then there are the more obvious consequences, like the inevitable unpleasant smells emanating from drains and plug holes, and health risks increasing as waste festers in your blocked pipes.
The integrity of any building, domestic or commercial, depends on a well-functioning drainage system. When something goes wrong with the drains, you can expect a building to be compromised and extremely expensive repairs could result if the problem isn’t dealt with in a timely fashion.
